Alaska Voyage / Panning

Gold is something else you might find in Alaska's streams. Panning for gold means scooping up dirt from the bottom of the stream and sloshing it around in some water in a pan. Dirt, which is light, sloshes out ouf the pan. Gold, which is heavier, sinks to the bottom. Pretty soon, all the dirt gets sloshed out. If there was any gold, it will most likely be little flecks left in the bottom of the pan (if you are lucky).

The pieces of gold this lady found are pretty small compared to a penny, but they are worth a few dollars.
