If I walk too near, the sanderling will run or fly a few feet further down the beach
and start hunting for mollusks again.

Watch out for the waves! He's a busy little shore bird. If I get close, he will fly a few feet away. He's looking for mollusks to eat. Why does he poke his bill into the sand?
