Little Boy Blue lived on a farm. His family raised sheep and cows and they grew some corn.

Little Boy Blue liked to help his parents do jobs on the farm. He helped his dad fix the tractor. He helped his mom make butter from cow's milk. He helped his parents care for the cows and sheep.

Little Boy Blue's parents gave him a shiny horn for his birthday. He made wonderful music with his horn all afternoon. He liked his horn so much that he stayed up extra late that night, playing it softly in his bedroom.

The next day Little Boy Blue's parents needed to stack heavy bales of hay in their barn and they asked Little Boy Blue to watch the animals for them while they worked. The sheep were supposed to stay in their pen, but they liked to sneak out and wander around in the meadow. The cows were supposed to stay in their pasture, but they liked to sneak into the rows of corn to eat and play hide and seek.

Little Boy Blue was supposed to tell his parents if any of the animals got out. He watched them and he played his horn, but after a while he felt sleepy. Little Boy Blue laid down on some soft hay to rest. He fell asleep right away.

While Little Boy Blue slept, the sheep and cows got loose, and his parents saw them. They said...

Little Boy Blue, come blow your horn.
The sheep's in the meadow, the cow's in the corn.

Where is the boy that looks after the sheep?
"He's under the haystack, fast asleep."

Will you wake him? "No, not I;
For if I do, he's sure to cry."
